RUF Intern

"It is never up to us to convince, just to share and live it out. Jesus is enough."

Last semester, a dear friend shared those words with me after I expressed discouragement. I felt like I wasn’t doing enough — I didn't have enough one-on-ones, I couldn’t get students to come to events or church, and I spent far too much time worrying over Bible study numbers. I kept asking, "What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do differently?"

It was then my friend reminded me that the Holy Spirit is the one responsible for all the work. No matter what I do, it isn't going to be adequate — only Jesus is enough. My job is to love on students and pursue them, showing them that whether it be divorced parents, a bad roommate, or a broken church, Jesus is big enough for everything.

I have a Heavenly Father who is in charge, loves me despite my failures, and never stops pursing me. He is faithful to work in and through me, even though I am weak.

The internship has taught me much, but one lesson has been particularly sweet. As I work to get to know students, I've found that I'm seeing a small glimpse of how our Heavenly Father pursues us. He is faithful and relentless, never giving up on us, and seeking us even when we try to run. That is what I have been reminded of most in this job: I have a Heavenly Father who is in charge, loves me despite my failures, and never stops pursing me. He is faithful to work in and through me, even though I am weak. It's not about me, or how many one-on-ones I do weekly, or how many girls come to Bible study — it's about knowing Christ, acknowledging His work as sufficient, and telling others what He has done for us (I Corin. 2:2-5).

Praise Jesus I'm not enough, and I will never be enough. Were it up to me, I would fail miserably. He is enough, and He is at work!
