Alumni Feature: Sandra McCracken

July 10, 2017

This Q&A is part of a series of interviews featuring RUF Alumni. Today's post features Sandra McCracken, a prolific songwriter, modern-day hymn writer, and record producer bringing grace and clarity to her music through a soulful, folk-gospel sound.

Let's start off with who are you and what do you do?

I'm Sandra McCracken and I write songs and perform, serve at a local church, and get to be a Mom to two amazing elementary school age kids.

What college did you graduate from?

I graduated from Belmont University.

Who was your campus minister when you attended RUF?

My first year of college I attended RUF at Vanderbilt with Hal Farnsworth. My sophomore year, Kevin Twit started the Belmont RUF and seeing as he was my first friend in Tennessee, I was right there with him.

What is your favorite memory from RUF?

I remember one spring retreat being made into a human ice cream sundae. On a serious note, I remember one year at summer conference, sitting in a friend's room and experiencing the illumination of the gospel. I was a believer as far back as I can remember, but it was a significant moment of conversion.

How has RUF impacted how you approach your career?

I still have my closest life-long friendships from RUF. We have been through a lot of changes but the bonds are true.

What would you say to an incoming freshman?

RUF is a place you can bring your heart and mind. It's safe to bring your questions.
