Why be an RUF Intern?

Being an RUF Intern changed my life... it’s true!

There are two things that the internship taught me especially well. As cliché as it sounds, I learned to trust God and I learned to love the Church more. As far as trusting God is concerned, I have had countless instances where I have seen God’s hand in a very tangible way. Whether in fund-raising, personal finances, friendships (or the lack thereof), students who were driving me crazy, or a host of other things, I had to learn to trust God to take care of it because there was no way I could.

God also developed in me a deep and abiding love for His Church. I think it began at my first staff training worship night. As I sat in a room singing, listening to God’s Word preached, and receiving communion with a group of people I would soon begin to feel very close to, I saw the beauty of so many different people coming from so many different places, all passionate about furthering God’s church. Because that’s what RUF does: They don’t just entertain college students, they disciple students and get them plugged into local churches so that they will be in community for the rest of their lives. And RUF doesn’t just preach it, they live it out. Every intern is required to join a local congregation in the first few months of being in their new town. I don’t know that I would have gotten plugged in to my church if that hadn’t been the case, but I am now part of a congregation that is passionate about furthering God’s church and is being used by God in some very visible ways.

Because of God's work through RUF, I am confident I will be able to say this for the rest of my life.
