Welcome to RUF at W&L! RUF is a community of students on campus striving to Love God, Love each other, and Love Washington And Lee. We work hard to create a safe environment for asking questions about faith, life, work, relationships, and how the Gospel of Christ transforms everything we do. Please join us each week at 8PM in Hillel for Large Group!

Lewis Lovett is a native of Knoxville, TN and graduated from Wofford College and Covenant Theological Seminary. Before attending seminary, Lewis worked as a youth director in Charlottesville, VA for 4 years. Maggie was born in Madison, VA and graduated from Washington & Lee in 2007! Lewis and Maggie were married in Lee Chapel at W&L in 2008 and have three wonderful daughters, Ellie Kate (1/30/12), Ruthie (5/15/13), and Caroline (4/8/16). They are welcoming a 4th baby girl in February of 2018! They are thrilled to be serving with RUF at a university and in a city that they love so much. In their free time, the Lovetts enjoy playing outside as a family and sharing good food with good friends. You’ll find them on their back porch most nights.
Abby was born and raised in Greenville, SC, where she lived until moving to Winston-Salem, NC to attend Wake Forest University. Abby graduated from Wake in May 2019 with a degree in Spanish and linguistics. She is so excited about moving up another state to serve RUF at Washington & Lee in Lexington, VA. Abby can't wait to spend time with students while hopefully exploring the Blue Ridge mountains all around her, drinking tons of coffee, and getting Coke slurpees at the 7-Eleven.
Ben grew up in the Washington D.C. area until he went to Winston Salem, North Carolina to attend Wake Forest University. He graduated ~virtually~ in May 2020 with a degree in Economics and Music. He is thrilled to be marrying Abby Windsor in August of 2020, moving to Lexington, VA and serving with her and the rest of the RUF staff at W&L for the next two years. Ben is most excited about exploring the Shenandoah's mountains, rivers, and trails with students and hopefully playing music around a fire late into the night with them. He is also very excited to host dinners and other fun events at his little home that he and Abby will share only 5 minutes from campus.
Laws Smith grew up in Dallas, Texas but wanted a location with more mountains and seasons for college. During his four years at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Viginia, Laws studied engineering, was involved in W&L's outing club, coached a local soccer team, but was mostly involved in RUF. Given his love for the ministry, passion for the students on campus, and love of small town Lexington, Laws is so excited to be returning to W&L for the RUF internship next year.
